The firm was launched by Rick Jacobs to apply the insights he developed as a Fortune 500, government and non-profit executive to deliver creative solutions to public and private sector challenges. A native of Oak Ridge, TN, Rick moved to Los Angeles to work directly alongside Occidental Petroleum’s founder and Chairman/CEO as the youngest Vice President in the company’s history. He went on to become the CEO of Newstar, Inc., which worked in Russia with companies like Lockheed and Marriott, and became the head of a family office overseeing a multi-billion dollar investment portfolio that included commercial real estate and public and private equities. He briefly served as acting COO of Marvel Entertainment, and his executive experience also includes serving as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office.
Rick founded four successful and currently operating non-profit organizations — one has more than 1 million members, one created a Covid relief model that was replicated in cities and states across the country, one brings together America’s most innovative Mayors, and one whose coalition represents hundreds of billions of dollars in infrastructure investment annually. His work in the labor movement includes representing the interests of a 500,000-member union.
As a committed strategist and activist in politics and social change, Rick chaired Howard Dean’s presidential campaign in California and ran a 2020 Presidential exploration that Politico dubbed “a tightly choreographed play.” He was prominent in the fight against Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and California’s same sex marriage ban, and was a key advocate for marriage equality across the country. Rick also led the campaign to pass the nation’s largest ballot initiative for infrastructure, which is currently generating $120 billion in revenues.
He is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
